Remembrance Day is a chance for Brixworth Primary School to reflect and remember all of those who fought and lost their lives in the line of duty since the First World War.

We would like to share with you some of the wonderful pieces of work that our Year 5 pupils produced for Remembrance Day and some images from the church service that they attend at All Saints Church. 

“He opened his eyes. Every day, guns screamed, thunder boomed everywhere and infected feet could be found around every corner. Lightning flashed and the soldier resisted leaving his post as he knew he would let his team down if he did. He quivered as the screams of pain could be heard wherever he went. Above the parapets, guns screamed more than ever. Everywhere the bitter stench of half buried bodies filled the air. The enemy showed no mercy. There was a bang.. He looked up to the sky for the last time.  - By Chloe M

“Heavy weapons, sticky mud and rats as big as cats, littered the floor of the trenches. Dark grey clouds loomed over theirs heads as the cold rain cried down, soaking them to the skin. Beside the broken sandbags, the brave soldiers were dying slowly. Both sides tried to kill each other. “ - By Logan M

“We walked to the church on Friday 11th November to do our year 5 Remembrance service. We did this so that the people who died in the war could be remembered. Inside the church, we thought about what it would be like in the trenches. Afterwards, we went outside and stood for two minutes in silence. Then we read out names of soldiers who died in the war  and laid crosses and wreaths down for them. We wore poppies to do our service to symbolise peace and remembrance. Then we walked back in silence to remember those who had lost their lives.“ - By Maia S, Simran KF & Elizabeth M

“In year 5 for Remembrance, we went to the church to do a special service for the people who have lost their loved ones in the war.  We sat in the church and listened to Mr Tyler’s welcome and then we listened to Milla’s piece. Then we sang Peace Perfect Peace and listened to Grace’s piece. After this we went and stood in a circle and read out the names of the people who died in the war. We placed crosses on the bottom of the big cross. We then did a two minute silence to remember the people who served in the war.“- By Ivy Y & Frederica C
