Our Vision for Art at Brixworth Primary School
At Brixworth Primary School, we envisage that every artistic learner who leaves our school will have acquired a range of techniques and skills through first hand experiences. They will develop artistic creativity, engage in the creative process and be inspired and challenged by art. They will be able to express the world around them through creativity in many forms. Our learners will develop this knowledge and understanding through our Key Concepts:
- Explore & Develop Ideas – This concept involves understanding how ideas develop through an artistic process. This links to being resilient through adapting and refining ideas and using the artists’ style to create their own. Learners will be resourceful by collecting ideas from a range of sources for their own final piece. They will be reflective through their evaluations by identifying success and areas of development.
- Techniques – This concept involves developing a skill set to communicate ideas. Through the various mediums of art, children are developing an understanding and respect through the richness of cultures. Each year group studies a variety of artists from different cultures. Children also gain an awareness of the environment through reusing materials and studying nature.
- Great Artists – This concept involves learning from the artistic process and techniques of great artists and artisans throughout history. This helps the children to develop an awe and wonder of an artist and their pieces. They can reflect on their likes, dislikes, thoughts and convictions, which will encourage them to build up a skill set to be used throughout their creative future.
