Our Vision for Geography at Brixworth Primary School
At Brixworth Primary School, we envisage that learners will develop a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. Our learners will develop a secure knowledge and understanding of our Geography Key Concepts:
- Locational Knowledge – This concept involves understanding the geographical location of places. It draws on our lifelong learning behaviours helping us to be resourceful by seeing connections and making links.
- Place Knowledge - This concept involves knowing what a place is like, being able to compare, and contrast one region with another. It draws upon our global citizenship and understanding of how people live in different locations.
- Human and Physical Geography - This concept involves understanding the relationships between the physical features of places and the human activity within them. It brings an appreciation of the world’s natural resources and helps us to become global citizens by understanding how we use the world’s resources.
- Geographical Skills and Fieldwork - This concept involves using fieldwork to observe, measure, record and present human and physical features. Children will learn to understand geographical representations, vocabulary and techniques. This allows our children to practise their learning behaviours of being resilient and resourceful when mastering a geographical skill such as drawing a scaled map.
