In Year 1 and 2, our topics are designed to engage the children with a memorable experience at the start, having a marvellous middle and ending with a fabulous finish. Learning is planned in a cross-curricular way ensuring that children can make connections between English and other areas of the curriculum.
Year 1 builds upon the progress the children have made during their Foundation year and encourages greater independence in subtle ways. In the autumn term, children mainly work in groups having a mixture of adult lead, independent and play based learning. In the spring term, there is more emphasis on whole class teaching which prepares the children for life in Year 2.
Year 2 is a very busy final year in Key Stage 1. We continue to add to and build upon the progress that the children have made in Year 1 and we help prepare the children for life in Key Stage 2. Throughout the year pupils are prepared for their end of Key Stage SATs in a positive way by referring to them as Secret Agent Tasks
