Our Vision for PSHE at Brixworth Primary School

At Brixworth Primary School, we envisage every child will leave our school with the vital knowledge and tools needed to build safe, enriching relationships, confidently embracing the changes, challenges and opportunities ahead of them. Our learners will develop this through a secure understanding of our PSHE Key Concepts: 

• Personal: We support our children to learn about themselves as individuals, to see how they fit into the world they live in. This links with being spiritually aware as the children are encouraged to be proud of who are they and confident in themselves. We aim to instil a strong sense of worth as well as teaching our children a range of techniques and skills to help them cope with the challenges of life.

• Social: This concept involves our children understanding how to engage and interact with others in a positive way. Through our school values, assemblies, PSHE lessons and circle time our children develop a sense of empathy for others. Our children develop their awareness of being a global citizen through diversity, inclusion and British Values, which allow them to see the world beyond Brixworth and to understand what it means to be an upstanding member of their community. Lifelong learning behaviours are developed through communication skills, including the importance of listening to others with an open mind.

• Health: This concept involves an understanding of the importance of both physical and mental health. This links to lifelong learning as our learning behaviours will support them to develop a positive mind-set and be resilient when faced with new challenges.

• Safety – This concept involves knowing how to keep safe physically, mentally and when online. The children learn to understand the boundaries of relationships. This links to being a lifelong learner, knowing how to be resilient and problem solve when things are identified as unsafe.
