Year 5/6 Girls Rugby
On Wednesday the 7th of June, a group of girls from year 5 and 6 went to The Saints home stadium called Franklins Gardens along with Mr Tyler and Mrs Donaldson. When we arrived we sat down in the stands and got told we would be playing 3 matches of tag rugby against other schools. We drew the first game 2-2, we won the second 3-2 and finally we won the last one 5-3. Next, we had a tour of The Saints stadium by Emma Hardy who plays for Loughborough Lightening Ladies rugby team. She showed us the away changing room. The room layout was very smart as all the walls are painted in the Saints colours so as soon as the opposing team enters the room all they are thinking about is the Saints. Then, on our tour we went to the tunnel club which is like a bar where you can get food and drinks but it is very expensive to get into. Finally, we went into the changing rooms. In the changing room there is a massive badge that we weren't allowed to stand on as it is very special. We did an orienteering race where we ran around the stadium finding answers. We won the race by 2 seconds and none of the other teams had returned in time. It was a great day and the mini buses were great. We are very thankful to The Saints and the school for letting us go. We really enjoyed the tag rugby event on Wednesday. It was epic! When we got to the Saints stadium, we played a game of stuck in the mud to warm up and we did some other activities to practice our tag rugby skills. After that, we played three matches against other schools from our county. We tied one and won the other two. We had lunch while watching the year 7s play their matches. After lunch, we played some team games and then we had a tour of the stadium by Emma who plays for Loughborough Lightening. We got to see the opposition team’s changing room, which was made intimidating because it had The Saints colours and it was made to feel small. We also saw The Saints changing room and the VIP Tunnel Club and got to sit in really comfy seats. We did orienteering, where we looked around for seats that had facts attached to them. Finally, we got to design Loughborough Lightening shirts which could be made into this seasons rugby t-shirt. By Chloe T, Chloe M, Elise R, Year 5
