We Should Be The Best We Can Be For We Are All God's Masterpiece

World Book Day at Brixworth Primary was a little different this year. We decided that due to rising costs for families, we would not be dressing up for the day. Instead, as part of our whole school focus on the joy of reading, we wanted to encourage children to celebrate the books that they love. We did this to by running a book swap. Children were invited to bring up to 3 books into school on World Book Day that they no longer needed. All of the books were collected and each child had the opportunity to go to the "book swap shop" and bring a new book home.

"Reading is exciting, like the first time a bird spreads out its wings.

Reading is calm like a baby elephant sleeping cosily.

Reading is loyal, like when a kitten first opens its eyes.

Reading is relaxing like a tired bat hanging from a tree.

Reading is terrifying, like a shark roaming the seas.

Reading is magical, like a horse galloping through the green grass.

Reading is quiet, like a mouse sneaking yummy cheese from the fridge.

Reading is funny, like a sea cucumber rolling away.

Reading is sad, like a poor puppy on the streets.

Reading is adventurous like a bug climbing up a flower.

Reading is marvelous." -  By Daisy B & Layla P, Year 3

"On World Book Day, we had a great day. We started off with an assembly based upon books and differentn enres; a child from each class was selected to tell us their favourite book and a little bit about it (no spoilers of course!) We did this so we could find out about other books and find ones we might want to read.  After assembly, we did a book swap that consisted of taking up to 3 books into school and taking one back at home. I liked this because it meant that if I had any books that I wasn’t going to read anymore then I could give them to another child and I could take a new one home. This was really fun and lots of children in my class got to take some great books away with them.  At the end of the day, we swapped teachers! Mrs Partridge came up to our class to share her favourite books while Miss Bond went to down to Foundation Stage. It was a great experience and fun to have another teacher for a while!  - By Jacob M, Year 6
