Meet our six new feathery friends!
‘The girls’ have settled in very quickly to their new home- they love to be scratting in the bushes and making themselves dust baths. Each class will be looking after the hens for a week at a time, duties will including letting them out, putting them safely in at night, feeding, collecting the eggs and cleaning them out. Of course we will make sure we wash our hands thoroughly afterwards. The hens are point of lay pullets, which mean they are just coming to the age to start to lay. As of today, we have collected 21 eggs! Each class has been involved in naming the hens and from the pictures you can see the ones they have been given.
June 2019 - Foundation Stage have loved taking turns looking after the hens for the past three weeks. Going to see them twice a day, feeding them and giving them water. The children also loved giving them new bedding for the coop. Their favourite part of the job is looking for fresh eggs which we used to make cakes.
