Excellence, Aspiration, Inclusion, Respect

At Brixworth Primary School, learning is planned in a cross-curricular way ensuring that children can make connections between English and other areas of the curriculum. Topics are designed to engage the children with a memorable experience at the start, having a marvellous middle and ending with a fabulous finish.

Year 1 builds upon the progress the children have made during their Foundation year and encourages greater independence in subtle ways. In the Autumn term children mainly work in groups having a mixture of adult lead, independent and play based learning. In the spring term there is more emphasis on whole class teaching which prepares the children for life in Year 2.

Year 2 is a very busy final year in Key Stage 1. We continue to add to and build upon the progress that the children have made in Year 1 and we help prepare the children for life in Key Stage 2. Throughout the year pupils are prepared for their end of Key Stage SATs in positive way by referring to them as Secret Agent Tasks

Please ensure that children have a suitable PE kit at all times and that they remove all jewellery for these lessons.  We expect all children to be able to remove their own jewellery (including earrings) by themselves and long hair must be tied up.

Key information:

Each class will hold an assembly once throughout the year. The assembly will take place 9.10-9.30am approx. Parents are invited to come in and watch the assembly. Also throughout the year, parents are invited in to observe a lesson being taught so that they are aware of current methods and how they can support their child’s learning at home.

Parents can support their children's learning through reading and discussing the books daily, and by giving children the opportunity to visit the local library to read about and research our topics.

If you would like to discuss how you can help your child at home, please see your child's class teacher. We welcome parental involvement in the life of our school.

If you have any questions about our years 1/2 phase please do not hesitate to make an appointment with our phase leader Mr Langford.
