Excellence, Aspiration, Inclusion, Respect

At Brixworth Primary School, learning is planned in a cross-curricular way ensuring that children can make connections between English and other areas of the curriculum. Lessons are designed to challenge all pupils throughout with many opportunities for teachers and students to assess the learning taking place. Pupils cover a wide variety of topics and we aim for learning to be: a memorable experience, be hands on, taught within an immersive learning environment and to have cross- curricular links. All of this learning is brought to life through many hands on experiences such as visits, WOW days and Fabulous Finishes in school.

Details of Home Learning

Each week children will have spellings, reading and times tables to complete. The times tables practise is to be completed on TTRockstars. Each child has their own login and their class teacher will be setting times tables for them to work on. The amount of practise completed will be checked weekly.

With reading and spellings, these will alternate either being set on Google Classroom or a hand-written task. When on Google Classroom the learning will need to be ‘turned in’. All Children will be expected to read regularly at home every week. All children’s spelling sheets will be kept in a purple folder and spelling tests will take place on a Friday.

Alongside the above, all children have a list of 12 activities for the Autumn term which are optional.

These activities are aimed at giving children a range of different life experiences. These activities will be posted onto your child’s google classroom (for Foundation Stage on the ILD) and if they wish they can ‘turn in’ pictures of completing the activities they complete.

PE

September 2020 - PE kit is currently not required. Outdoor time is available each day so outdoor shoes/trainers are to be in school and hung on the childs peg.

Please ensure that children have a suitable PE kit at all times, for indoor PE this is shorts and t-shirt, and that they remove all jewellery for these lessons.  We expect all children to be able to remove their own jewellery (including earrings) by themselves and long hair must be tied up.

Year 4 Times Table Test

This is a new test that will begin for all schools in June 2020. The online test is aimed at assessing children’s quick recall of times tables facts up to 12x12. TT Rockstars is used in some maths lessons and as home learning to help children prepare for this.

Key information:

Each class will hold an assembly once throughout the year. The assembly will take place in the morning and for the Autumn term of 2020 the assemblies will be via a video link. Parents of that class will be invited to watch the video link.

How you can help

Parents can support their children's learning through, good attendance (above 96%), being punctual, practising spellings and times tables, reading, and discussing the books daily. Also by giving children the opportunity to visit the local library to read about and research our topics.

If you would like to discuss how you could help your child at home, please see your child's class teacher. We welcome parental involvement in the life of our school.

If you have any questions about our years 3/4 phase please do not hesitate to make an appointment with our phase leader Mrs Varrier.
