Excellence, Aspiration, Inclusion, Respect

At Brixworth Primary School, learning is planned in a cross-curricular way ensuring that children can make connections between English and other areas of the curriculum. Lessons are designed to challenge all pupils throughout with many opportunities for teachers and students to assess the learning taking place. Pupils cover a wide variety of topics and we aim for learning to be: a memorable experience, be hands on, taught within an immersive learning environment and to have cross- curricular links. All of this learning is brought to life through many hands on experiences such as visits, WOW days and Fabulous Finishes in school.

Please ensure that children have a suitable PE kit at all times, for indoor PE this is shorts and t-shirt, and that they remove all jewellery for these lessons.  We expect all children to be able to remove their own jewellery (including earrings) by themselves and long hair must be tied up.

Year 4 Times Table Test

This is a new test that will begin for all schools in June 2020, with June 2019 being a trial year. The online test is aimed at assessing children’s quick recall of times tables facts up to 12x12. Each week children are focusing on learning all multiplication facts and practising being able to recall these quicker.

Key information:

Each class will hold an assembly once throughout the year. The assembly will take place 9.10-9.30am approx. Parents are invited to come in and watch the assembly and are also given the opportunity to visit their child’s class for 30 minutes after to watch a Maths or English lesson being taught.

During the week before the October half term, there is an opportunity for Year 4 children to experience a 3 day, 2 night residential at Beaumanor Hall in Leicestershire. Activities include topic linked learning and teamwork challenges.

How you can help

Parents can support their children's learning through, good attendance (above 96%), being punctual, practising spellings and times tables, reading, and discussing the books daily. Also by giving children the opportunity to visit the local library to read about and research our topics.

If you would like to discuss how you could help your child at home, please see your child's class teacher. We welcome parental involvement in the life of our school.

If you have any questions about our years 3/4 phase please do not hesitate to make an appointment with our phase leader Mrs Reynolds.
