The year 4 children attended their first residential trip last week. As part of their learning, they attended Beaumanor Hall in Leicestershire for a 2-night stay. The trip provides the children with the valuable experience of staying away from home and the opportunity to build on friendships, confidence and resilience with the use of various teambuilding exercises.
“As soon as we got there, we dropped our suitcases next to our cabins. After that, we went into a room and learnt about the iron age. Then, we did a word hunt about the iron age. After that, we went back to our cabins and we had lunch. Then, made our beds and sorted out the cabin and what we needed. We went to the round house in the forest, and we did activities like face painting and making flour. We went to a giant building for dinner and went to the cellars and played hide and seek. We then went to our cabins for bed. The next day we went for breakfast in the same giant building, and everyone was a bit tired. After breakfast we did survival activities, and our instructor dumped water on our shelters. Then, we had lunch outside of our cabins. We made bridges and walked on them over a river. We went to our cabin for a rest before dinner. After dinner we went on the night line with two eye masks on and a lot of people were scared. Then, we went to bed. The next day we did team activities, then we played in the playground, and we packed our stuff. We had lunch and then went on the coach to go home. We loved it. We had an amazing time.” Anais & Alfie
“First, we were on the bus on our way. I was super excited. Next, we put our suitcases in the amazing cabins. Then we went on a mysterious stone age trail. I learnt loads of words. After we went to set up our cabins and beds, they were very comfortable. Then we had lunch which was a sandwich, crisps, raisins and a sweet treat. Next it was time to do activities. It was so cool we had blue face paint. We made flour and had a battle with wooden swords and shields, and we did some weaving. After we had dinner, I had macaroni cheese, and the other option was chicken pie. Then we played hide and seek in the cellars! It was my best thing, yet it was very dark but so fun I exploded with joy. Next, we got into cozy pyjamas and had biscuits and hot chocolate yum! Before we knew it was time for bed, and I was ready to take on the next day.
Day two. It was the next day, and I slept well. It was time for breakfast. I had toast and cereal. It was delicious. Now it's time for activities. We had survival. We built tents in groups and our leader (Jhonno) he threw water over our tent. We got soaked but it was very cool. Then we had lunch. I was very hungry. Next it was time to build a bridge. We used lots of planks of wood and we used rope. When it was my turn to go on the bridge, I was excited and yes, I made it across. After that we went to the super fun activity area where we did little races. Now it's time for dinner. This time I had pizza, and it was scrumptious. Then we did the night line. It was so good everybody was screaming even me, and I faced a new fear pitch black in the dark, so I was very proud of myself. Then we went to bed. I was sleepy.
Day three. First, we had a yummy breakfast! After we had to pack everything, make sure we had every single thing. Next, we did team challenges. We had a rope we could not take our feet off of and holding hands trying to get over a hula hoop and we had to help somebody to reach a cup from far far away. That was very fun. Then we had lunch. It was spectacular. After we went to the shop there were so many things to choose from. Next sadly it was time to get on the bus and go home I had a great time. It was super.” Mia
