Strictly Schools UK Finals

“On Saturday groups of children from different schools went to the Strictly Finals at the Derngate Theatre. The head judge was Amy Dowden from real life Strictly Come Dancing! In total, 18 schools competed. We performed the Viennese Waltz and the Cha Cha Cha. It was really fun and we got to watch the other schools dance. There were hundreds and hundreds of people watching. There was a huge glitter ball hanging from the ceiling and the stage was massive too. We danced in pairs to fun music. The girls wore a purple outfit with a cool type of skirt that came off and on without the whole thing coming off. The girls had to wear red lipstick; we could wear mascara and glitter on the sides of our eyes. We also wore bronzer and blusher. For shoes, we had white plimsoles. The boys wore a silver waistcoat, black long-sleeved shirt, black trousers and black plimsoles. They also had glitter on the sides of their faces. We all got a medal and certificate for competing but unfortunately, we didn’t win.

It was a really fun experience.” By Jacob and Summer

“On Saturday I woke up feeling excited. I got my clothes on and went to the Derngate. After watching some other dances, I was called up. I felt positive. Then Miss Rigby lead us onto the stage. I felt a little bit scared. After I performed my two dances, I felt a lot better. Then they announced the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners. Finally, the show was over.” Felix

“On Saturday I woke up and read my book because I couldn’t name the emotions I was feeling. I was excited and nervous. Miss Rigby gave me some body glitter and told us to line up. My partner was a little bit late but once inside, we climbed the stairs. We took our seats; me and Beau were going to hold the sign for Brixworth Primary. We went backstage and waited. Then we entered and walked around the stage twice. I enjoyed seeing the teachers’ dance that Miss Rigby did. Then we took our seats again. Finally, it was time to go. As we walked on stage, worries filled my head. We did our dances and the crowd cheered. When we walked off stage I felt proud. Soon after, the judges announced the results. We didn’t get a place, but I was still proud.” Bonnie
