As a wow start to their new topic, Year 3 and 4 had Victorian Day on Monday 12th April. Children had the option to dress up in Victorian clothes. Throughout the day they used slate and chalk to practice their handwriting and chanted timetables and the alphabet. The teacher would choose a ‘class monitor’ to sit at the front of the class and be the teacher’s favourite and watch the rest of the class.
The boys enjoyed tasks such as geometric drawing and woodwork, the girls sewing and polishing brass. They also learnt that children were punished for talking and fidgeting and some children wore the dunces hat in a corner of the room.
