Our Vision for Computing at Brixworth Primary School
At Brixworth Primary School, we envisage that every child will be a responsible, competent, confident and creative user of information and communication technology. Our learners will develop this knowledge and understanding through our three computing key concepts:
- Coding – This concept involves understanding and using algorithms, creating and debugging programs and developing an understanding of instructions, logic and sequences. This enables our learners to be resilient through overcoming challenges when creating and debugging code. Our learners problem solve and are resourceful when faced with coding errors.
- Connect (Online Safety) – This concept involves developing an understanding of how to connect safely with others, using technology safely, respectfully and responsibly. This links with being a global citizen though developing an understanding of the World Wide Web. Our leaners have developed a positive digital footprint by understanding their online activity impacts others.
- Communicate & Collect – This concept involves using software to collect information, use systems and content to communicate and present information. Our learners are able to articulate their thoughts and feelings positively online. They reflect a sense of belonging within our school community when communicating online. Collecting, organising and manipulating data promotes lifelong learning and equips our children for their future careers.
Children in all Key Stages have access to a bank of 30 shared iPads. Key Stage 1 have 16 surface Pros laptops and Key Stage 2 have 32 chromebooks. The children are taught using Interactive whiteboards, visualisers, digital cameras, voice recorders, and numerous other technologies. This allows us to create visually stimulating lessons and greater opportunities for interactive learning. Children are also taught to use online cloud based material including Mathletics and PurpleMash.
There is a key emphasis on learning skills for computing; these include programming, debugging and exchanging information. Our children are taught how to access information, evaluate its suitability, store it, share it with others and tailor it to meet their own needs.
Digital Literacy is a big part of the curriculum, with children learning how to use IT safely – at regular points throughout the year children undertake online safety sessions on topics such as cyberbullying and keeping information safe.
