About Us

About Us

Brixworth is a large rural village, 7 miles to the north of Northampton, with Brixworth Country Park and Pitsford Reservoir on the outskirts. The historic All Saints Church is located at the heart of both village and school.

Brixworth Primary School is committed to giving children the opportunity to learn in the outdoor environment. We believe that taking learning outside is good for promoting children's self-esteem, well-being, behaviour, co-operative learning and problem solving. These skills feedback positively into the classroom.

We have introduced the Forest School concept and all children at Brixworth Primary School have now experienced some forest school sessions. These sessions build on the natural instinct for children to learn and explore. They offer opportunities for children to make choices for their own learning and take and manage risks. The development of these skills encourages positive attitudes and behaviour.

The sessions are not activity based but instead are led by the interests of the children taking part. Children have enjoyed experiences such as building shelters, woodland craftwork, telling stories, climbing trees, hunting for mini-beasts and using tools. As Forest School, develops further within our school the children will be introduced to fire lighting, this providing new opportunities for risk management.

The concept was developed in Scandinavia, and operates on the principle that children of all ages benefit from the learning opportunities present in a woodland environment. They found that by taking the majority of their learning outdoors, whatever the weather, their children became resilient, confident and independent learners.

Your child will be told when they are taking part in Forest School activities. Please ensure they have all of the correct kit in school on the that day - it is all for their own safety and they may not be able to take part without it.

  • Sturdy boots, wellies or outdoor shoes
  • Waterproof trousers and waterproof coat (depending on the weather)
  • Hats and gloves (in the cooler months)
  • Sun cream (during the summer term)
